Within the next few years, the federal government may require local law enforcement agencies to pinpoint emergency calls made from cell phones.

Because of new Homeland Security directives, the Federal Communication Commission said the move is necessary.

Coffee County E911 coordinator Charles Webb wants his county to have new equipment to handle cell phone emergency calls and he wants to split the cost with city governments.

The Coffee County Commission is researching the cost of implementing this new technology.
