Alabama state troopers say so far this week, during the highway safety campaign, they've issued 3,400 citations per day.
That includes 20 citations for DUI, 1,000 for driving without insurance or no license and 1,600 tickets for speeding.
Troopers credit the success to having 125 additional officers on the roads.
The goal of the program is to change drivers' behavior in order to save lives.
The "Take Back Our Highways" campaign ends Sunday at midnight.
