Dothan Beating

Police are still investigating the weekend beating death of a Dothan man. The witnesses were re-interviewed Monday.

Police said 40-year-old Jerry Lee Campbell was hit once in the head with a 2x4 by another man whose name has not been released.

Police said the men had been traveling in a vehicle on Cottonwood Road Saturday night when Campbell got into an argument with his girlfriend. The other man pulled over in a church parking lot to intervene and the two got into a fight.

Sources said Campbell pulled a knife and chased the other man to a nearby construction site. That's where the man grabbed a piece of wood to defend himself.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case. Investigators hope to make a final determination within the next couple of days.
