UGA Underage Drinking Crackdown

The University of Georgia moved Wednesday to crack down on underage drinking among students.

The school will now suspend repeat offenders for at least a semester and give first-time offenders probation for a school year.

The policy overhaul follows the death of 19-year-old freshman Lewis Fish, who died in January of a toxic mix of alcohol, cocaine and heroin.

Under the old rules, there was no standard punishment for first offenders, and parents weren't required to be notified until a second offense.

Parents will be notified after each violation.
