Alabama lawmakers have approved a state-wide sales tax holiday. Now Dothan officials must decide whether they want to participate.
If Dothan officials choose the tax-free holiday the city stands to loose between $70,000 and $300,000
However state and county officials have opted to waive a total of five percent in sales tax, while the city could waive three percent.
“It will be a savings to the citizens of Dothan and will cost the city some money. But the citizen's are the city,” mayor Pat Thomas.
There is a clause in the state bill allowing cities and counties to determine if they'll implement tax-free day.
It’s usually three days set aside in August.
