Some area companies are setting the pace for the United Way fundraising season.
The Pacesetter Campaign kicked off Friday morning.
Ninety-six area businesses participate in the campaign, getting an early start on raising money for the foundation.
United Way will not announce their fundraising goal until September 4th, but organizers say the Pacesetter Campaign can generate 25 to 35 percent of that target.
Last year, the goal was $2,555,555.55. That goal was met after the sponsors gave over $2.6 million dollars.
"We realize that things like the high gas prices affect things, but we also know they affect our agencies. If they are running a transportation program to get people to the center, then their costs have gone up as well. We're just hoping people will be as generous as they can, and that today will get them motivated and inspired," says Walter Hill, executive director of the Wiregrass United Way.
If the United Way meets its goal this year, the Wiregrass Foundation will give $400,000 dollars to the foundation.
It’s not too late for your business to participate in the United Way Pacesetter Campaign.
