High energy costs have a lot of people feeling the pinch.
In order to do their part in assisting customers, Dothan Utilities has issued a new website, expected to help citizens manage their electric bills.
The site is called Dothan Utilities Energy Depot, and it’s from the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority.
It has a lot of useful tools that could help trim your energy costs...
"Obviously, with the increases in the price of oil, we're seeing increases in fuel adjustment charges, and ultimately the cost of electricity," Dothan City Manager Mike West said.
Most of us have been shelling out a lot of money on gas and groceries these days, but your electric bill may also have you feeling in the dark.
To shed a little light on the subject, Dothan Utilities is offering a website for their customers called Energy Depot.
"You can put in your account number and it will give you the history of your utility use, and it will let you see how you have consumed electricity," West explained.
Everyday kitchen appliances could be sucking up some juice and with a click of a mouse, you can pinpoint the culprit.
"You can put the name of different kitchen appliances in, along with the year and model and you can see how much energy your appliance actually uses each month," Electric Operations Supervisor Richard Ash said.
Energy Depot also offers you tips on how to keep energy use low in your home; for instance, keeping your refrigerator door properly shut, could help you save some money on your electric bill.
"It will allow them to calculate savings and other things associated with various changes, whether that is adjusting your thermostat up or down a few degrees," West added.
And, if you take the time to answer some simple questions, you can receive a personalized report detailing monthly use in dollars and energy units.
There are close to 30,000 customers who use Dothan Utilities, and only about 300 are using Energy Depot.
So now that the word is out, hopefully more will log on.
