Former Mayor Charged With a Third Misdemeanor

Former Level Plains Mayor Tim Jackson is charged with a third misdemeanor.

Jackson turned himself in on Sunday. The charge is related to an alleged violation of an Alabama code that occurred while he was still in office. Jackson is accused of illegally obtaining a confidential record involving child abuse and neglect.

Jackson allegedly demanded the confidential files from the police department and indicated there would be "problems" if they didn't turn them over. The incident led to the resignation of police Chief Mike Mariano.

The city council is set to appoint a new magistrate tonight to hear the first misdemeanor charges against Jackson. Those charges were filed after Jackson allegedly assaulted one of the newly appointed council members. Jackson is also charged with disorderly conduct following a traffic stop.
