Underage drinking is a big problem for areas across the county, and one local group is trying to change that in the Wiregrass.
The Houston County Substance Abuse partnership and their youth council will be taking a trip to Nashville, Tennessee next month to visit the Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center for a conference.
Teens in the youth group are having a fundraiser this weekend in order to help pay for the trip.
Tonight at Cici's Pizza on Ross Clark Circle in Dothan, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. the kids will be bussing tables for tips and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go toward their trip to Nashville.
They will also be there Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Youth group leaders say that this is an opportunity for the teens to gain knowledge that they can teach to others about the dangers of underage drinking.
"We are hoping that they learn these activities and steps that they can bring back to their peers and bring a lot of positive per pressure back to their community," said Beth Ford with Houston Co. Substance Abuse Partnership
