The City of Dothan is doing final preparations before demolition of the old city jail in downtown Dothan.
Utility workers removed all equipment from the building that can be used elsewhere in the city.
A similar effort went on inside of the building to extract granite, marble and other materials that can be used before the building is transformed into a parking lot to draw more business and traffic to the downtown area.
“Take those things and lets say if we build a park downtown for the kids, we might be able to use some of those items from the jail in that park or maybe we'll recycle some of that marble in a building that's being rehabbed,” said Cathy Cole with The Downtown Group.
The city is set to bring down the old jail on Monday.
