Local Tourism is Not Affected by Oil Price Increase

In these days' of skyrocketing fuel prices, one-time beach bound vacationers are heading to Lake Jackson for rest and relaxation.

Florala Mayor, Danny Franklin, says the cash receipts are way up at the city boat ramp.

Mayor Franklin says it indicates residents are staying closer to home.

He adds that many beach bound travelers are now spending their time and money in southern Covington County.

It cuts down on gas consumption and gives people more money to play with.

City leaders say the tourist money will keep Florala’s retail sector flowing during these tough financial times.
