A man accused of robbing and killing a Bay County motel clerk last year has confessed to more crimes.
30-year-old David Merkel is accused in the beating death of 58-year old J. Edward Bennett in October last year.
In addition to murder, he's now charged with armed robbery, arson, grand theft, and false report of a crime to law enforcement.
In a separate incident, detectives believe Merkel staged a robbery.
Merkel reportedly told investigators he was robbed at knifepoint.
Investigators say he set fire to an office in an attempt to conceal any evidence.
They added Merkel cut his neck to look as if he was injured.
