Geneva County Increased Court Costs

Those found guilty may soon see increased court costs in one Wiregrass county.

At Monday's Geneva County Commission meeting, District Attorney Kirke Adams asked that a "fair trial tax fund" be established.

Adams says nearly two dozen counties statewide have such a fund.

Essentially, a surcharge of $16-dollars would be tacked on to the cost of a fine or court costs.

This would affect both misdemeanor and felony cases.

Adams asked the commission to consider the proposal before voting on the matter later this month.

The money could be used to purchase equipment for law enforcement.

“You don't understand how badly law enforcement needs this right now,” Adams said. “In fact, if approved, it'll help keep me from having to make staff cuts. And, for your information, I will not see a penny of it.”

Adams is also expected take the proposal before the Dale County Commission this week.

Finally the ones respondsible for all these cost increasese will be actually paying for them, great job Mr Adams I stand behind your request 100%. Now move on to traffic...why not implement a fuel surcharge type fine to be added to traffic violators to help off set the high cost of fuel. When that trooper car has to turn around and accelerate quickly to overtake a speeder that fuel usage should be added to the violators fine...making the respondsible party more respondsible for his/her actions. Again great job Mr Adams keep up the good work
