Two violent acts all rolled into one gruesome event on Sunday night on the 200 block of Powell Street near the Dixie Depot.

Police think one man was stabbed before another was fatally shot multiple times in the upper body.

The victim was 37-year-old Willie Young from Georgia, and the suspect in the murder and stab victim is 40-year-old Maurice Brown of East Newton Street

"This morning, we had detectives that secured a murder warrant for the suspect; at this point, he's still at the medical center, but when he gets out, he will be arrested and charged," said Lt. David Jay with the Dothan Police Dept.

Xavier Henry moved his store to the area thinking the location would bring more business. He says the violence takes away from the opportunity.

"It makes your customers feel like they're unprotected and they can't come here to shop. We don't need that in this area; we need all the business we can get in this area," said Henry.

"Any time on the weekends there is a high pedestrian count on Foster Street all the way to the Dixie area and at this time, we are looking to increase the officers in the area," adds Lt. Davis.

Business owners do feel some of these incidents give the Dixie region a bad reputation, but with new construction coming in they hope an increased police presence can make it one of Dothan’s bright spots.
