New Plan for the Circle City's Future

Dothan City Manager, Mike West unveiled an ambitious new plan for Dothan’s future.

His community investment program addresses basic needs, such as spending nearly $2 million this year to replace vehicles and equipment.

However, the plan also includes a veritable "wish list" submitted by every city department, including a new $10 million library, $15 million baseball stadium and $50 million Civic Center that would seat 10,000 people.

West has submitted the plan to city commissioners for their consideration.

“Now it’s up to the city commission to look at that and say, ‘Yes this is something we'd like,’ or, ‘No its not;’ and then obviously once we define all of the future aspects of some of the quality of life issues, I guess then they can go through the issue of how do we fund it and pay for it,” said West.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the commission voted to hire Todd McDonald as the city's new director of planning and development.

McDonald will start work at the end of May, and one of his first duties will be to streamline the process and create a one-stop-shop for people doing business with the city.

McDonald most recently worked in the Planning and Development Department in Shelby County.
