Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and the Food Bank are teaming up to distribute nutritious but appetizing snacks to youth.
Wal-Mart and Sam’s have agreed to match $5 million in consumer donations to $5 million for America's Second Harvest Network of Food Banks.
The money will be used to distribute food, expand the backpack program, and provide supplies to food banks across the nation.
In the Wiregrass, 3500 families could be helped through this program.
“It'll help us in the long-run. Wal-Mart and Sam’s have always been food product donors to us, but now their partnering more actively with us, and that'll help us right here in the Wiregrass,” said Wiregrass Area Food Bank Exec. Dir., David Hanks.
Twenty-two million pounds of food are expected to be delivered, and nationwide so far $3.5 million has been contributed.
