No Fault Insurance

In Florida, insurance companies, trial lawyers and doctors have drawn lines for a legislative battle over reform of the state's no-fault auto insurance law.

No-fault requires motorists to buy personal injury protection insurance to pay for their injuries in auto accidents regardless of fault.

It used to be hailed as a way to eliminate most injury lawsuits, but insurance companies contend it no longer accomplishes that goal.

But representatives of the trial lawyers and healthcare industry blame the insurance companies for the problem.

Advocates for chiropractors and hospitals also warned against making drastic changes in the no-fault law.
