Alabama Child Abuse Bill

Priest

The Alabama House passed a bill today that would require clergy members to report suspected cases of child abuse.

Teachers, daycare workers and doctors are among those already required to report suspected abuse. Interest in the bill increased after the Rev. Alexander Sherlock resigned from St. Peter's Catholic Church in Montgomery in February.

Archbishop Oscar Lipscomb said at the time that Sherlock had admitted to three incidents of sexual abuse. The bill passed the house 92-2.
