Reject to Replace a Boot Camp

Bay County commissioners are rejecting a plan by the sheriff to replace a boot camp that is under fire for the death of a 14 years old Martin Anderson.

The sheriff wants to turn the camp into a new military style detention center for minors where guards run the place like a marine boot camp.

Anderson was seen on a videotape being kneed, kicked and hit by guards. He passed out during the ordeal and was taken to a hospital where he died the next day.

Bay County's medical examiner said Anderson died of a blood disorder, but other medical experts are casting doubt on that conclusion.

A second autopsy will be done by an independent medical examiner and by a former New York City pathologist.
