Samson Mayor Pleads To Misdemeanor Charges

A longtime office holder in the Wiregrass confirmed published reports that he pled to misdemeanor charges in a Northwest Florida courtroom.

Last March, Samson Mayor Clay King allegedly stabbed his ex-wife's boyfriend in the parking lot of a DeFuniak Springs motel.

The victim, Stephen Oates of Geneva County, received serious lacerations to his abdomen and was hospitalized for several weeks.

King pled no contest to charges of battery and criminal mischief in a Walton County courtroom.

He will consecutively serve one year's probation for each of the charges and pay a $220 fine.

In addition, the 44-year-old mayor must attend anger management counseling and avoid any future contact with the victim.

Last week, King qualified to run for his fourth-term as Samson mayor. Those sentenced on misdemeanor charges are allowed to keep their elected position in Alabama.

True this is not about Samson; Clay made this about Samson when he did the crime. It is true both sides have not been told. Did Clay admit to extramarital activities and Paula did not stab his significant others? No. It takes a man to admit he is wrong and what he "did" do and to step down as mayor (which he was/is not much of one?} Was it a crime of passion or belittled by the fact his wife divorced him? What new rec dept; why two new police cars? I do vote and I will NOT vote for Clay. I know for a fact approximately 175 people have been hand delivered voter registration forms to be able to vote on Aug 26! Is that a way to win an election? Give Samson back to the people & let them be informed - therefore, a new mayor. GOD Bless Samson, the Citizens and GOD Bless the United States of America.

Okay, to the last comment-- If that were me that stabbed someone I would still be in jail. Money does buy you anything. Clay has paid his lawyer well over 100,000. Now, do I have that type of cash just laying around? Why heck no, so therefore I would still be in very hot water.. I'm even starting to make jokes about it myself.. This whole thing is just stupid. I don't vote, so therefore I do have the right to complain. In my opinion this place was brought, sold and paid for a long time ago. It doesn't matter who sits in the mayor's sit, what about the other people that have their hand in it? As I stated before, there are plenty of folks here in town that have good money, what they say goes.. The poor very don't have a voice, and of course this saddens me. They are the ones who have been through tough times and would have a lot more sense then these rich folks..

FIRST OFF THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CITY OF SAMSON.IT WAS A PERSONAL ISSUE MADE PUBLIC.DID ANYONE EVER HEAR ALL SIDES OF THE STORY? I DIDN'T THINK SO. THEREFORE, LET US NOT THROW STONES.WHAT IF THE DA'S OFFICE HEARD ALL SIDES AND DECIDED THAT THE DECISION MADE WAS BEST?WHAT IF THERE WASN'T ANY EVIDENCE? WHAT IF MR. OATES SLIPPED AND FELL AND CUT HIMSELF, WHAT IF THERE WASN'T A CUT AT ALL?AND REALLY WAS HE HOSPITALIZED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS? WHY, I THOUGHT I SAW HIM BACK TO WORK.HE'S ONLY ASKING FOR TROUBLE COMING TO SAMSON.HE'S THE ONE THAT SHOULD LOSE HIS JOB AND NOT BE ALLOWED BACK IN TOWN.AS FOR CLAY NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR THE CITY--WHAT ABOUT THE ARMORY HALL GRANT, THE TWO NEW POLICE CARS, NEW REC. DEPT., TWO SIDEWALK GRANTS, ETC.OH, ONE MORE THING AN EFFICIENT WORK FORCE WHO RESPECTS THE PEOPLE.

You are 100% correct in what you said. Just goes to show, you can have money and still qualify as poor white trash. Jerry Springer, Clay's number is 1-800-dumba...

How can anyone think Clay hasn't done anything wrong? Just because it was a crime of passion doesn't make it any less a crime and we all know Clay bought himself out of a felony! This whole thing has been a circus. It all reminds me of an episode of Jerry Springer.

There is a lot more than is being said in print and on tv. Any time injury occurs something has been done wrong. All a person has to do is walk away. People of Samson help vote this man out!

This is sad that our justice system is all about who you are and who you know and how much you are worth. Will he go to anger classes? So what if he don't he be fine. Probation there will be no violations. He holds his head high on t.v. interviews as if he's done no wrong.I've seen his ex-wife and she still walks around like she owns the world.I think she is the blame for this whole thing she knew she was a married women she could have prevented the whole thing or got a divorce first.I don't blame her for the stabbing but breaking up a home and hurting your children and family is tough am sure. I wounder why we never hear from the boyfriend. What about the lawsuit. If Clay truly cares for this town i think he would withdraw from the race.Maybe after a while this will just fade away but if he in office it will stay alive. I WISH THE TOWN WELL.

Everybody is upset how this turned out but they could not have been surprised. That is the way things have always been run down there. In all the comments I've read over the last few months about king people keep saying they need a new Mayor well they are the ones who can vote king out. That brings up another issue people fuss about the king and their hold on samson yes they own a bank but their is another bank in town and 2 more right down the road. The drug store that is owned by a king daughter yes it is the on drug store in town but there are 3 right down the road.At the insurance office i am told how belongs to Clay's ex-wife well I would not be very comfortable doing business there the start with with a woman that seems to have alot going on and in my opinion was to blame for some of this also.Plus there is another insurance right across the street.People have to stand up to break the cycle.People move to from the unfairness.even tough i don't live there I hope things inprov.

Well it looks like flordis has some just as crooked as Samson. So much for that tough Flordia law.I did not know battery with a weapon and injury with a hospital stay along as oates could be reduced.IF I was depending on the District Attorney and Judges in Florida to be protectin me and my family i would about as protected as the citizens in Samson do about Samson ever becoming anything under the present leadership. But theres one thing about it there is comes another election and you can always cast you vote as a citizen we put them in there and you can always vote to put someone new in.Hopefully thats what will happen here in Samson we have a selection for Mayor but not council members yet all the old council member have qualified. we need new council members also.King done wrong got away with it ! no surprise the suprise here would be if we could get a a complete chaange of leadership and see Samson actually come to life.
