There is a new strip mall under construction in Dothan, new stores and restaurants are already set to go in.
The land was purchased in August of 2007 by Brigham Williams Commercial Properties in Birmingham. The plaza is located on the intersection of South Oates Street and Inez road directly across the street from the Southside Wal-Mart.
The strip mall will have a variety of stores and restaurants including Hibbett Sports, Old Mexico, Foxy Nail Salon, and a new Chinese restaurant called Panda Chicken.
There will even be two new women's clothing stores, Rue 21 and Maurice’s.
The Dollar Tree on Inez road will relocate to the new building for better parking accommodations.
"They say its hard for people to get in and out of over there so they want to come over here where there is more room for everybody,” says Danny Clark, the Superintendent for Paragon Construction.
Contractors do not have an exact date of when the stores will open up, but they do say it'll be coming soon.
"I’ve got to give Maurice’s, Rue 21, and Dollar Tree theirs by the end of the month so they so they can start, for them to start doing their work inside so I would say probably about 2 months." says Clark.
Dothan city officials say the area of land is roughly 33,000 square feet and the purchase was a smooth transaction.
"It was a very clean inquiry; these folks did their homework and knew exactly what to present and where they were going with the project," says Todd McDonald, Director of Dothan Planning and Development.
In addition new businesses, it is new job opportunities for Wiregrass residents.
The contractors on site said that once the stores start setting up, they will most likely take applications.
There are still three vacant slots left on the strip mall, developers say they are working on having them filled, but have no certain plans yet. The grand opening is early fall.
