Perdue's floor leader -- Republican Rep. Glenn Richardson of Dallas -- introduced legislation Thursday that would broaden the list of tax-exempt items. The holiday would be held from July 31 to Aug. 3.
The bill’s four-day tax holiday would replace plans for two tax-free holidays -- one in the spring and another in the summer.
Tax-exempt items included in the proposed bill are some clothes and shoes that cost $100 or less per item, hand-held computers and some books.
Georgia's sales tax is four percent, but total sales taxes vary by county.
Tax-free holidays were launched by former-Gov. Roy Barnes last year to help boost the state's sluggish economy.
