The IRS says thousands of Alabamians have just a few weeks left to claim their share in millions of dollars.
The deadline is April 17, the day when more than 27,000 Alabamians will lose an opportunity to submit a 2002 tax return.
The IRS says they are holding more than $24.5 million in unclaimed refunds for people in the state.
Spokesman Dan Boone in Birmingham says the average refund is about $550.
If the taxpayers don't claim the money by April 17, it will be given to the U.S. Treasury Department.
