When Hurricane Ivan battered southeast Alabama two-years-ago, volunteer firefighters were clearing roadways.
They were also assisting other emergency responders during the height of the storm. Coffee County EMA Director, John Tallas, says the volunteers didn't get any FEMA reimbursement for use of their equipment.
He says that need to change before another natural disaster hits the area.
The Coffee County Commission would like legal guidance from the state before implementing a policy to get volunteer fire departments reimbursed by FEMA.
