Operation Broken Heart

Law enforcement officials call it one of the Circle City's largest drug crackdowns in years.

Police Chief John White said more than 60 warrants have been issued as part of "Operation Broken Heart." The charges include the sale and possession of crack and powdered cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and one of the most rapidly growing problems: prescription drugs.

According to White, the arrests mark the end of a six-month joint investigation by the Vice and Intelligence Unit of the Dothan Police Department and the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

ABC Director Bob Wallace came to Dothan to personally take part in the round up. Eleven arrests were also made for the sale of alcohol to minors. Police said warrants have been issued for the clerks involved in the transactions and the business owners could face ABC board sanctions against their licenses.

Chief White said "Operation Broken Heart" will continue until all the suspects are in custody. More than half of the suspects had been booked at the Dothan City Jail.
