Contaminated Blood Quarantined

The Red Cross said 89 bags of donated blood have been quarantined in Alabama, including 42 units collected in Mobile.

Inspectors with the Food and Drug Administration said several bags of donated blood from Mobile were found that contain mysterious white particles.

American Red Cross spokeswoman, Mary Lee Conwell, said those bags have been quarantined pending the FDA investigation and will later be destroyed.

The Red Cross said, so far, the white particles have only been reported in the southeast.

Further testing will be done by the centers for disease control and prevention.
