An investigation is underway into Tuesday's train derailment in Jackson County, Florida.
The derailment happened around 5 a.m. near Davenport Road in the Cypress Community.
The CSX freight train, with 58 cars and three locomotives, was bound from Chattahoochee to Pensacola. About 20 cars jumped the track, but officials said there was never any threat to the public or the environment.
Jackson County Fire and Rescue officials saidthe CSX railroad has had five major derailments on the line between Cottondale and Sneads in less than 20 years. The last wreck happened in June of 1997, one mile west of the current wreck.
Damage estimates on the cargo and track have not been released. Officials are still trying to determine how the wreck happened.
CSX officials hope to have the wreckage cleared and the track reopened on Thursday. But, they said the process could take longer.
