A soldier on leave from the Army is waiting to be formally charged in the accidental shooting death of a New York woman who was standing at her apartment window.
Authorities say Private Danny Carpio will be arraigned on charges of manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. He's accused in Wednesday night's death of Selina Akthel. Investigators say she was standing at the fifth-floor window when she was hit by a stray bullet and died instantly.
Prosecutors say Carpio had been drinking before meeting up with friends outside his Queens apartment complex and fired the gun three or four times into the air.
The victim's husband says he heard the shots, walked into the bedroom and found his wife lying in a pool of blood.
She would have turned 29 tomorrow.
