Prosecutors say a serial rape suspect told another inmate he would kill a prosecutor in his case and leave for his native Honduras after his jailbreak.
A tipster led police to Reynaldo Rapalo at a southwest Miami shopping center last night. He escaped from jail December 20th by rappelling down the building using tied-up bed sheets. Today, he was denied bail on an escape charge.
A spokesman for State Attorney says officers were assigned to guard two prosecutors and State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle while Rapalo was at large.
The State Attorney's Office says Rapalo told at least one inmate that his plan after escaping was to kill a prosecutor on his case, then return to his native Honduras.
Officials also tracked Rapalo's pay phone calls.
Police say the tipster who led authorities to Rapalo last night will get a 36-thousand-dollar reward.
