The Pentagon has announced that come spring, US troop levels will drop in Afghanistan by about three-thousand.
Spokesman Larry DiRita says the reduction will be accomplished by sending just one battalion from New York's Tenth Mountain Division to Afghanistan instead of the full brigade as planned. The troops were slated to deploy in mid-March.
DiRita says that NATO forces will take up the slack created by the switch. Total force levels in Afghanistan will remain the same.
