Preliminary results from Iraq's biggest electoral district show a Shiite (SHEE'-eyet) alliance leading with 58 percent of the vote.
Iraq's electoral commission says nearly 90 percent of the ballots have been counted in Baghdad. The commission says the Shiite United Iraqi Alliance has received more than one-point-four (m) million votes, followed by the Sunni Arab Iraqi Accordance party with about 452-thousand votes.
The party of former prime Minister Ayad Allawi (EE'-yahd ah-LAH'-wee) is running third.
The commission hasn't provided any additional details.
Baghdad will have 59 of the Iraqi parliament's 275 seats.
