Elba has contracted with every other coffee county city except Enterprise, to take in their unwanted dogs and cats.
George Homyack is Elba’s animal control officer.
He picks up strays there and also accepts the animals from New Brockton, Kinston, and un-incorporated Coffee County.
Enterprise runs its own animal control.
Homyack says he's made an effort to get as many of the strays adopted as possible.
Elba officials say the community’s contract with them to handle their stray problems. That helps pay for food and other necessities to run the shelter.
