Jackson County Toll Road Meeting Set for Tuesday

Washington County said thanks-but-no-thanks to a proposed toll road to the new Bay County Airport.

A public meeting is scheduled for next week in Jackson County to see how people there feel about the idea.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 24 at the Cottondale Civic Center. The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.

The proposed super-highway would link Dothan and Montgomery with Interstate-10 and the new Bay County International Airport.

Last week, Washington County Commissioners rejected the project on a 3-to-2 vote.

Why are their stakes on Sapp Rd now showing where this new turnpike will go if it has not been approved already? What ever happened to Florida Sunshine law? What are the people on the west side of this road suppose to do for emergency service? Who is going to pay for the 1000s of extra miles residents west of this road will have to drive for basic necessities? This will never be passed without eminent domain, and enough money will never be available to buy the land and build the road. Many properties will be useless for what they were designed, peaceful homes, farms and business. Pollution will be horrible. Farm land will be divided with it taking 30 miles to go around to Hwy 90 to get on the other side of the highway and back to the rest of the land. Why would Jackson County want to have paying cars by pass their county? There are many county business that benefit from 231 drivers. People do stop an hour from where they start. Only Alabama and Panama City will benefit.
