Santa Claus took a break from wrapping Christmas gifts Thursday, to give the greatest gift of all, blood. For six years, Santa Claus has given blood to the Wiregrass area American Red Cross.
About 70 percent of the population can give blood, but only four percent do, and that's once a year.
But that number goes down during the holidays.
Santa however, doesn't only give blood during Christmas; throughout the year he donates the much needed blood every 56 days and encourages others to do the same.
Santa says, "I give blood every 56 days because it decreases the chance of heart disease in males by giving every 56 days. And it just makes me feel better; once I give blood I feel so much better 4 a few weeks. I'd give more often if they'd let me."
You can catch Santa before he goes back to the North Pole.
Another blood drive will be held on Tuesday Dec. 20 at Solomon’s Chevrolet Cadillac in Dothan from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Donors will again have a chance to win two round trip tickets and a seven day Holland America Caribbean cruise.
