Election officials in Baldwin County are trying to get to the bottom of an election night foul-up that threw the Alabama gubernatorial race in turmoil for nearly two weeks.
A 6,300 vote total change, attributed to a computer glitch, swung the election from democratic incumbent Don Siegelman to the Republican Bob Riley.
Mark Kelley, general manager of Election Systems and Software, which owns the optical scan voting machines used by the county, met Monday with Probate Judge Adrian Johns and other county officials.
Kelley said his company tests and retests its machinery and computer software before it sends them to counties for use on Election Day and said he doesn't know what went wrong.
