The Dollar Tree robbery in Ozark has police questioning whether this is the beginning of a crime wave in the area.
Ozark authorities believe the recent rash of robberies in Dothan may be trickling into Ozark.
The bell at the Dale Pharmacy in Ozark not only serves as a welcome to those coming in, but now acts as a security measure after last week's Dollar Tree robbery.
Ozark Resident Cindy Cannon said, "I was very surprised and actually a little worried because with us being so close to the Dollar Tree you know, you're always afraid you're going to get hit as well."
Cannon is the owner of Dale Pharmacy and says she is worried about the robbery, since her business is just feet from the Dollar Tree.
Authorities say the recent robberies in Dothan may be pouring over into other Wiregrass towns.
Ozark Police Dept. Chief Tony Spivey said, "We believe the robbery here in Ozark is related to a robbery in Dothan where the MO was basically the same."
Chief Spivey believes the suspect in last week's robbery is also responsible for robberies in Dothan, Troy and Enterprise.
Chief Spivey says there are "A lot of similarities in those robberies; so you know, we're working closely with the officials in Dothan, Enterprise and Troy and hopefully bring this to a quick and successful resolution."
Authorities say the suspect hit stores on busy streets, making it easier for him to escape.
"All of the robberies have occurred on a major highway, either Ross Clark Circle or 231 here in Ozark, 231 in Troy and 84 in Enterprise," Chief Spivey added.
For Cindy and her colleagues, they are keeping an extra eye on their surroundings, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
Some tips Chief Spivey gave is to always be aware of your surroundings and if you notice any suspicious activity to call authorities.
Ozark authorities say last week's robbery was the first they've had in months.
