Enterprise Getting Ready for First Lady

Enterprise students who were juniors when a tornado destroyed their school last year, are a day away from graduating.

Principal of Enterprise High School Rick Rainer says a show choir trip to the White House for Enterprise students was when he suggested to a staff member that a White House member visit Enterprise for Graduation.

Weeks later he found out First Lady Laura Bush was able to attend.

He says all the hard work in recent weeks to make the appearance possible is worth it for students who have been through so much.

"They had to grow up too fast. That's the downside of it but I am extremely proud of them for doing it. Their responsibility, their sense of oneness has been amazing," said Rainer.

News 4 will be there for Thursday’s graduation and the First Lady's appearance. We'll have coverage for you Thursday on News 4 and wtvynews4.com

I attend EHS, and Plan on graduating tomorrow. It would be GREATLY appreciated if you camera people would NOT hound/follow us students. It's a sepcial day, please respect that. We've certainly been through enough.

I appreciate Mrs. Bush coming. I am SO proud of the seniors and so proud that Mrs. Bush cares enough about EHS students to come and pay honor to them!!

It's nice that Mrs. Bush wants to visit Enterprise, but as a parent of a graduating senior I am concerned about the number of people who will be there just to see the 1st Lady. Our kids and their achievements are being forgotton. I hope that people who are only "spectators" will respect the families of the graduates and not come to the ceremony. With limited seating we, the parents, want a see our children graduate.

At a time when the country is in a severe economic turndown, the City of Enterprise raised its sales tax. Perhaps Laura could comment on this when she visits.
