An educator in the Wiregrass fulfilled a promised to his students. College Street Elementary School Principal Ed Weeks got all "wet" for reading. Weeks was dunked several times on the enterprise school campus.
At the beginning of the school year, Weeks offered the youngsters a challenge. As part of the school’s reading initiative program, the child who read the most books in each grade got a chance to put the principal underwater.
The challenge must have worked; thousands of books were read over the nine week period.
"We are celebrating our students who scored high points and test scores with our accelerated reader program", Weeks said. "They want to put their principal in the water."
Weeks said he, along with the school's faculty, will do whatever possible in order to get the children to read more, but he's not sure if he'll go back in the dunking booth anytime soon.
