Fire Fatality

The heat and dense smoke kept responders from getting to the children immediately.

Neighbors would report flames shooting more than 15 feet into the sky. The mobile home is located along Highway 189 along the Coffee-Covington County line about two miles South of Kinston.

Kinston Volunteer Firefighters were the first to arrive. A horrifying scene of neighbors and family trying to reach a baby, two young children and a 16-year-old babysitter trapped inside.

News 4 contacted state Fire Marshall John Robinson by phone but withheld the names of the deceased or injured pending notification of relatives.

News 4 has learned that the 18-month-old boy died in the fire, two other children under the age of seven have been transported to the Burn Center at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
