Local Wet/Dry Referendum on Alcohol Sales

Some Wiregrass elected officials say the issue of alcohol is best left in the hands of the people.

The New Brockton town council wants legislation approved to allow a local wet/dry referendum on alcohol sales.

New Brockton is "dry” although a person can go to nearby Elba or Enterprise to buy alcoholic beverages.

In addition, Mayor Chalres Cole confirmed that he will not seek another term in office when qualifying begins in July.

The mayor says 24-years in public office is more than enough.

There would be too many parents blowing their money on mindless things and not supporting children at home.

I wouldn't leave anything in the hands of the people. The lottery vote has shown that the majority of the people are just mindless robots that do exactly as their preacher tells them to do.
