Multiple fire departments responded to a fire near the Houston/Geneva County line that resulted in an elderly man going to the hospital.
Firefighters from Rehobeth, Southern Junction, Taylor, Fayette, Malvern and Wicksburg converged on a blaze Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after arriving on the scene, the elderly victim was successfully extracted from the home and then the battle kicked in.
Mostly it was a fight just to get water on the scene; trucks were coming and going shuttling water to and from the house from hydrants a little over a mile away.
The fire was pretty much extinguished a little over an hour and a half, and the house was declared a complete loss.
There is no word yet on the condition of the elderly man taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation
