A reporter from the Saint Petersburg Times newspaper is recovering after being shot while covering Hurricane Katrina in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Thirty-four-year-old Marcus Franklin was shot Monday night. Newspaper officials say Franklin was treated and released from a Baton Rouge hospital.
Franklin had been reporting on evacuees returning to their homes. He says he was on his way back to his Baton Rouge motel at 11:30 p.m. when he was stopped at a dimly lit intersection.
He says a man with a black revolver appeared at his window.
After driving off, Franklin realized he had been shot in the stomach and called the paramedics. Newspaper officials say doctors decided not to remove the bullet because it was too risky. He was scheduled to fly back to Saint Petersburg Wednesday.
