One Wiregrass School District is making a concerted effort to limit miles on the highway.
At this month's Geneva County School Board meeting, Supt. David Snell says the "cutback" on bus travel is already netting results.
Snell says nearly all school class trips have been eliminated.
With the skyrocketing cost of fuel, it's all part of the school board's policy to cut back on all non-essential travel.
In addition, board members say Geneva County is working with nearby school systems to share the expense of sports teams going to state tournaments.
In that way, the price of fuel could be split between two districts.
Snell says it's a shame, but there's no alternative with a "tight budget.”
