Vincent Lampkin is charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Gwendolyn Brock.
Brock was gunned down outside a Dothan nightclub in 1990. Witnesses identified Lampkin as the killer, but he disappeared that same night.
Police finally caught up with him last year in New Orleans. Investigators said the fugitive was married and working as a barber under an assumed name.
Lampkin is being held without bond.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday morning before Judge Jerry White.
