Ten Commandments Ruling May Be Halted

The legal wrangling continues over the Ten Commandments monument in the Alabama Judicial Building.

A judge gave Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore 15 days to remove the monument but suggested he may halt the decision while Moore appeals it.

District judge Myron Thompson Friday ordered the injunction after hearing comments from Moore.

Moore testified that removing the granite monument he installed would violate his oath of office. He testified that the laws of the state he swore to uphold are based, in part, on Judeo-Christian values.

Richard Cohen, a lawyer with the Southern Poverty Law Center, said he will argue against postponing the injunction.

Thompson said he'll decide next week, after receiving formal motions from both sides in the case.
