The suspect in Tuesday's robbery of the Kinston Bank is now in custody in North Carolina.
Samson police received a tip that a man identified as Richard Jay McCall of Samson may have been involved in a robbery. The vehicle used in the robbery was found parked next to a barn on Armstrong Road in Samson. Investigators located McCall in Rocky Mountain, North Carolina.
An arrest warrant was obtained for McCall and faxed to the Rocky Mountain police. When McCall was approached by the officers, he tried to get away in a 1997 Chevrolet four wheel drive pick-up truck. In the attempted escape, McCall ran over the front of an occupied police vehicle. Other officers on the scene shot McCall, preventing his escape. McCall will now be charged with attempted murder of a police officer in addition to other charges.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Kinston Police Department, and the Coffee County Sheriff's Department are continuing their investigation of the robbery.
