Northwest Alabama Under Tornado Watch as Front Approaches

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - About one-quarter of Alabama is under a tornado watch as a strong system approaches the state.

The National Weather Service issued the watch for the northwestern corner of the state. It covers 18 counties until 4 p.m. Friday. The watch area runs on a line from Huntsville in the Tennessee Valley to Demopolis in western Alabama.

Forecasters say there is a chance of strong thunderstorms in the region all afternoon and tonight. The weather service predicted wind gusts up to 30 mph.
