The father of Utah teen-ager Elizabeth Smart says he doesn't believe the man accused of kidnapping her will change. So Ed Smart hopes Brian Mitchell will stay in a mental hospital, now that Mitchell's been declared incompetent to stand trial.

The 51-year-old is accused of kidnapping the then-14-year-old Elizabeth from her bedroom in 2002, sexually assaulting her and keeping her as his second wife for months. Ed Smart says his only satisfaction would be in knowing Mitchell won't be released to hurt anyone again.

Elizabeth is now 17. She says her mom would like her to stay close for a couple more years, but she wants to leave Utah and play the harp at New York's Juilliard School.
