Judge John Roberts has moved one step closer to becoming the nation's 17th chief justice.
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 13-to-five in favor of sending Roberts' nomination to the full Senate.
Among those voting against approval were Democrat Joseph Biden
of Delaware and California's Dianne Feinstein.
However, Wisconsin's two Democratic senators, Herb Kohl and Russ
Feingold, backed Roberts' nomination.
The White House hopes to have Roberts confirmed and seated by the time the Supreme Court opens its new session on October third.
