Several people across the country are taking advantage of the giving spirit in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Dothan's Salvation Army advises people to beware of frauds and people who say they are working on behalf of charity organizations.

Salvation Army workers say report any suspicious activity and stay alert year round, as scams happen despite the season.

Capt. Mark Gilliam with the Salvation Army says, "It's unfortunate, but I believe people who are dishonest will cheat others out of funds."

To contribute to the Salvation Army, you may drop items off at the local store in Dothan or to donate money, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
